At the Brotherhood of Saint Joseph the Worker – Pontes Salutis in Varaždin, we believe that man was not created merely to survive, but for life in its fullness – a life in which work, prayer and brotherhood restore meaning and dignity.
That is why we have decided to breathe new life into an old outbuilding, converting it into eight smaller residential units. Each one will be a bridge to salvation – a quiet and simple space, yet filled with a spirit of renewal and freedom. A place where a person can breathe deeply, rest from the noise of the world, and begin to rebuild the foundations of their life.
In many communities and communal housing, what a person deeply seeks is often lacking – their own space and moments of personal quiet. With this project, we want to change that. Every person needs a corner in which they can gather their thoughts, stand before God and themselves, and find inner peace. At the same time, they remain connected to the brotherhood, for true freedom does not separate – it connects.
This is not just a building project, but an expression of our faith that the spiritual and the material can be united in everyday life. ‘Ora et labora’ – pray and work – for us is not just a phrase, but a way of being. Here, we wish for human dignity to be reborn through concrete work and community.
These flats are not just places to live. They are a space for growth – in responsibility, peace, work and faith. Here, one learns to be alone, but not lonely.
To live simply, but with hope.
And this home is not closed off. It is open to our friends and benefactors – to all who wish to experience our way of life, share a day with us, have a coffee in the courtyard, or simply be here. Hospitality is part of our identity.
